NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--
ACE Group announced today a new companywide goal to reduce greenhouse
gas (GHG) emissions by 10% per employee from 2012 to 2020. The
commitment follows the successful achievement of the company’s first
emissions reduction goal, which was 8% per employee from 2006 to 2012.
Since 2006, the company’s GHG emissions have been reduced nearly 22% per
employee.
“ACE’s new emissions reduction goal reflects the company’s ongoing
commitment to minimize its carbon footprint and control its
environmental impact, even as we continue to expand our capabilities and
presence around the globe,” said Evan G. Greenberg, Chairman and Chief
Executive Officer of ACE Limited. “We look forward to building on the
substantial progress we have made since launching our environmental
program eight years ago.”
To achieve its new goal, ACE will continue to deploy the approaches it
has used successfully to date, including installing energy-efficient
lighting and equipment and more efficient use of office space. ACE also
plans to continue to invest in and implement energy audits and
efficiency improvements within the company’s owned and long-term leased
spaces.
ACE reports its GHG data, along with an analysis of related climate
change risks and opportunities, each year through CDP, an independent,
not-for-profit organization that gathers and scores primary corporate
carbon emissions information from thousands of businesses around the
world. In 2013, ACE was named — for the second consecutive year — to the
CDP’s Global 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index as well as to its
S&P 500 Climate Performance Leadership Index. ACE was the only insurance
company named to both indexes.
ACE’s GHG emissions reduction initiative began in 2007 when the company
joined the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Climate Leaders
program. ACE used the program’s rigorous methodology to complete its
2006 base-year GHG inventory and, based on that data, publicly announced
its original goal. While EPA phased out the Climate Leaders program, ACE
has continued to track and report on its global GHG emissions annually.
ACE’s commitment to reduce carbon emissions from its own operations is
one component of the company’s overall environmental program. One of the
largest and most advanced global underwriters of environmental
liabilities and pollution risks, ACE is also committed to developing
innovative insurance products and risk management services that
facilitate market-based solutions to current and pending environmental
and climate-related issues. The third component of ACE’s environmental
program is to promote a healthy and sustainable environment through
corporate philanthropy.
ACE Group is one of the world’s largest multiline property and casualty
insurers. With operations in 54 countries, ACE provides commercial and
personal property and casualty insurance, personal accident and
supplemental health insurance, reinsurance and life insurance to a
diverse group of clients. ACE Limited, the parent company of ACE Group,
is listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE:ACE) and is a component
of the S&P 500 index. Additional information can be found at: www.acegroup.com.
